macrobert is located on the stunning campus of the University of Stirling and is easily accessible to all areas of Scotland. We offer unique facilities, which have been designed by young people themselves and include a dedicated theatre for children – playhouse; a state of the art cinema – filmhouse; children’s art gallery – arthouse; creche – treehouse; a workshop rehearsal space – workhouse as well as a stylish café bar and medium scale theatre space – mainhouse.
macrobert has created both an environment and an exciting programme of events that welcomes children, young people and families all year round.
To work with a range of artists and companies to create and present a multi-arts programme of the highest quality with particular emphasis on work with and for young people. To work to ensure all our activities and facilities are open to all young people and their families whatever their race, religion, language, ability, opinion, or family background.
No other festival or venue in Scotland offers so many events for young people all year round.
No other arts building offers the unique physical facilities macrobert has for children and young people.
macrobert has a young consultancy scheme in which young people regularly feedback and advise on how to improve the programme and facilities for children and young people. Currently we have 30 members in this group ranging from 6 to 18 years. This group has given advice to Children in Scotland on guidelines for adults working with young people. They are also regularly involved in research with CBBC.
The macrobert programme is based on a high quality product. Our own productions tour nationally and internationally. Our production of the Happy Prince featured at the Scottish International Children’s Festival and also went to London. The show was showcased in the United States in 2004 and will now tour to North America including The New Victory theatre on Broadway in 2005.
In 2004 macrobert, in partnership with Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, presented Discovery, Scotland’s First International Film Festival for Children and Young People.
In 2009, macrobert were successful in a bid to secure £750,000 funding from the Scottish Arts Council Inspire fund, to stage a festival for ages 12-17; working directly with young people of this age range as the driving force behind the festival. The work is ongoing and you can find out more by visiting the mPOWER page.
